Qpac fan array installation

Application

Simple fan array installation

Simple to Apply. Built to Perform.

The Q-PAC Fan installs as easily as any standard fan. Just connect 3-phase power (200–240V or 440–480V at 50/60 Hz) and a 0–10V control signal. No extra programming, no complications.

What It Delivers:

  • Up to 90,000 CFM per fan, or 360,000 CFM with multiple Q-PAC Fans
  • Static pressures from 1 to 9 in. w.c.

Built for Real-World Conditions:

  • Operates between -20°F to 104°F (-29°C to 40°C)
  • Handles 5–95% relative humidity, non-condensing
  • Rated for durability with IP20 Fan Controller and IP54 Motor enclosures

The Q-PAC Fan is purpose-built for comfort cooling environments. It’s not recommended for certain industrial or specialty applications.

List of Unsupported Applications

Application NameDescriptionReason
High Temperature FansOven/kiln fans, combustion air fans, and furnace/heat-treating exhaust fansThe fan’s EC motors are rated for ambient temperatures up to 104°F (40°C). Operation above this limit is not supported.
Process or Material Handling FansRadial blade fans, paddle wheel fans, and fans designed for moving particulate-laden air (dust, chips, debris)Q-PAC Fans are not designed for handling solid particulates or aggressive airstreams. Use in these conditions may damage the impellers or reduce performance.
Corrosion-Resistant or Chemical Duty FansFiber-reinforced plastic (FRP), polypropylene, or epoxy-lined fansThe Q-PAC Fan is built for comfort cooling applications and does not include corrosion-resistant coatings or materials.
Explosion-Proof or Hazardous Location FansUL Class 1, Division 1 or 2 Fans and spark resistant fans (AMCA Type B or C)The Q-PAC Fan is not explosion-proof and should not be used in classified or hazardous environments.
Sanitary or Washdown FansStainless sanitary fans, NSF-certified fans, and IP66-rated fansQ-PAC Fans are not rated for hygienic or washdown environments. Components are not sealed or constructed from stainless steel.
Ultra-low or Ultra-high Flow FansResidential or miniature utility fans (< 2,500 CFM) and axial fans (> 300,000 CFM)Each Q-PAC Fan is optimized for airflows between 4,000 and 90,000 CFM, depending on configuration. Multiple fans can be combined for system-level airflow up to 360,000 CFM.
Air handler frame horizontal orientation
Air handler frame vertical orientation

Orientation

The Q-PAC Fan supports both vertical and horizontal airflow, making it easy to match your air handler layout without rework. The Fan Frame, plug fans, and harness routing are fully compatible with either orientation, no modifications needed. Just follow standard air handler best practices: maintain recommended inlet and discharge clearances, and minimize abrupt airflow changes for optimal performance.

Air handling unit mount

Mounting

Width
The left-to-right span of the air handler. A single Q-PAC Fan can scale up to 150 inches wide. For larger units, multiple fans can be installed side by side to cover the full width.

Height
The vertical span from floor to ceiling inside the air handler. The Q-PAC Fan can scale up to 140 inches high to fit your unit’s layout.

Air handling unit clearance

Clearances

Inlet Clearance | 18-20 in
The space between the Q-PAC Fan inlet and any upstream components, such as filters or coils. This gap helps ensure smooth airflow into the fan.

Discharge Clearance | 36 in
The distance from the back of the Q-PAC Fan (motors and Fan Controller) to the first downstream component, such as a duct or coil. It allows clean airflow out of the fan.

Inlet Angle | 45 degrees
The angle formed between the face of upstream coils or filters and the closest inlet cone on the Q-PAC Fan. Keeping this angle narrow improves airflow into the fan.

Commercial air handler flange

Air Handler Flange

The Q-PAC Fan installs to a flanged surface made of mild steel or similar rigid material, between 5/8" and 1-1/4" in size. If your air handler doesn’t include a suitable flange, or if the existing flange interferes with recommended clearances, each Q-PAC Fan comes with a set of Perimeter Angles for easy, secure installation.

Assembly

The knockdown version of the Q-PAC Fan ships as a kit, with components organized across multiple pallets and inclusive of the Fan Frame and Fan Controller, plug fans, and any optional accessories. With step-by-step assembly and wiring guides included, the fan can be fully assembled and ready to install in under 2 hours.

Air handler dampers

Dampers

Traditional fan arrays rely on inlet backdraft dampers to stop backflow when a fan fails, but most Q-PAC Fans don’t need them. Our design eliminates prolonged airflow loss by allowing plug fans to be swapped in under five minutes. If a replacement isn’t available immediately, a supplied blank-off plate installs just as quickly to block backflow. While dampers aren’t recommended, Q-PAC can supply units that mount directly to the Fan Frame for atypical applications.

Integration

Option 1: Direct Connection

The Q-PAC Fan connects directly to your building management system or preferred controller with no extra interface required.

  • Power: 3-phase (200–240V or 440–480V)
  • Control: 0–10V signal for fan speed modulation

Optional Modbus RTU integration provides system-level feedback and control, including:

  • Speed modulation control
  • Total airflow
  • Individual motor status
  • Alarm notifications
  • Power cycle control

Want more insight? See our Q-PAC Fan User Manual.

Option 2: Existing or Third Party VFD or Control Panel

The Q-PAC Fan connects to a variety of devices, but must always receive unmodified, uninterrupted power, just the same as our basic connection requirements:

  • Power: 3-phase (200–240V or 440–480V)
  • Control: 0–10V signal for fan speed modulation

Using an Existing VFD?

  • Remove it: EC motors cannot accept modified waveforms. Supplying power through a VFD will cause the Q-PAC Fan to fault.
  • Bypass option: If the VFD has a true bypass that delivers full line voltage directly to the fan, it may be used as a disconnect.

Want more insight? See our Q-PAC Fan User Manual for Fan Connection Points.

Option 3: Q-PAC Accessories

Pair the Q-PAC Fan with one of our panel or disconnect options for built-in safety and easy on-site operation. All options meet basic connection requirements:

  • Power: 3-phase (200–240V or 440–480V)
  • Control: Optional BACnet MS/TP or BACnet IP integration
