Q-PAC Announces Addition to Plug Fan Catalog

Q-PAC is excited to announce the addition of a new plug fan (plug fan 1700143) into the Q-PAC Multimotor Plenum Fan (MPF) component catalog! The new plug fan, manufactured by ebm-papst, provides high air performance for its small footprint.

This affords facility managers the opportunity to leverage a multimotor plenum fan with fewer motors, that can easily fit into a small air handler cross-section while maintaining the necessary output of airflow.

This plug fan shines at a static pressure range of 5-7 in.wc. and has the highest air power output of any of our 450mm impeller options. It exhibits a similar performance to our most popular 500 mm plug fan, but with a smaller impeller.

Why does this matter? The smaller impeller means that this plug fan can achieve the same performance as larger impellers in a smaller cross-section. For facilities with smaller spaces for their HVAC systems, this option offers more flexibility to work within the narrow confines, while still generating high airflow volumes to meet building needs.

  • 440V-480V Power Supply
  • Electronically Commutated (EC) Motor
  • 450mm Impeller Diameter
  • Line Undervoltage Detection
  • Phase Failure Detection
  • Aluminum Impeller
  • 6.8 kW motor

Like other motors available in the Q-PAC MPF, the Undervoltage and Phase Failure detection features allow this motor to detect physical or electrical issues and report back that something is wrong. Power quality inside of a building is never perfect, so it’s important to have a motor that can give you feedback if there is a power issue.

This feedback is communicated through the MPF’s Fan Controller and lets the building management system (BMS) know to check the motor status. EBM’s reputation for reliable, high-performance motors makes them a natural fit for powering the Q-PAC Fan.

When it comes to performance, a Q-PAC Multimotor Plenum Fan using this new ebm-papst plug fan (plug fan 1700143) can achieve an operating point of 58,000 CFM @ 6 in.wc. of Static Pressure with:

  • >67% Wire-To-Air Efficiency
  • >1.3 FEI (Fan Energy Index)
  • 82 HP

To reach this same operating point with other plug fans would likely require a higher number of motors, with an increased upfront cost and less efficiency later on. The enhanced performance capabilities of this new EBM plug fan ensures more applications can be served by a single MPF, delivering an airflow solution with fewer motors, increased flexibility in your air handler space, and more efficiency from the moment you turn on your fan.
